Thistle
Thistle, translated into modern Russian, means "scaring devils", which fully corresponds to its abilities. Thistle (chertogon, tatarnik) is one of the strongest means for banishing unclean spirits from a house. In smoking, this plant is used rarely; the smoke of thistle is very bitter, burns the eyes and throat. It drives out unclean spirits, but it is also difficult for people to remain in such haze; therefore, fumigating with thistle must be done with caution and after the ritual it is necessary to ventilate the room. In addition, for bronchial asthma it is recommended to smoke dried crushed thistle leaves or by placing them on smoldering coals breathe the smoke.
